NATO has scrambled maritime patrol aircraft, early warning platforms and refuelling tankers to monitor Russian naval movements in the North Sea, with activity traced to submarine bases near Murmansk.
Dutch, American, British and French aircraft were observed operating today, including Boeing P-8A Poseidon maritime patrol aircraft, Boeing E-3A Sentry airborne early warning and control aircraft, and Voyager refuelling tankers the latter suggesting fighter escorts are also active in the area.
The operation comes amid escalating concern over Russian interference with undersea infrastructure across European waters, as well as Moscow's continued use of naval escorts to shepherd sanctioned oil tankers a lifeline for an economy under sustained Western pressure.
Operations of this scale and frequency are expected to continue and intensify in the months ahead.
FlightRadar24 data shows NATO aircraft active over Sweden, Norway and Finland today, corroborating this report.
